Alexandria, VA (June 2007) - Gallery West, the member-operated fine art gallery at 1213 King Street in Old Town Alexandria, announced today City, Town and Land, a solo show of oil and acrylic paintings on canvas and paper by Richard Whiteley, whose work draws inspiration from local town and country, as well as the city, in this case featuring New York’s Central Park .
“Nature blesses us with an infinite variety of moods and contrasts, changing with the seasons, the weather and time of day, from dawn to dusk,” says Whiteley. “I strive to capture the contrasts of light and dark, warm and cool in an impressionistic style and to create images of places that viewers can recognize, but presented in a more poetic light.”
Whiteley is past president of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters and a member of Gallery West. Other gallery affiliations include Paul McGehee’s Old Town Gallery in Alexandria, South Street gallery in Easton MD, Kevin Butler Gallery in Edgartown, MA., and Ripper and Erickson Gallery , Alexandria. He is frequently juried into Alexandria Art League’s monthly show, and received two honorable mentions in the past year.
Gallery West is located at 1231 King Street in Old Town. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday – Sunday, 11 am – 6 pm, except Second Thursdays until 9. The public is also invited to visit the gallery’s Web site at www.gallery-west.com
